Terry VanDerMark most recently was the Director and Lead Consultant for the National Fitness Business Alliance. The NFBA, founded by Thomas Plummer, was a nationwide continuing education company specializing in the health club industry that brought education to the people in the form of a national workshop tour. He vacated the position in December 2017 when Perform Better took over management of the tour.

In 1992 he commenced his career with the Thomas Plummer Company and held the position of co-owner and President until 2006. He managed the day-to-day operations, hired, trained and developed the staff, established vision, and developed products and services. He also developed and maintained the operating budget and handled vendor relations.

He has over twenty-five years of club management and operations experience including club ownership in six health clubs. He has had numerous articles published in the industry’s trade magazines and has spoken at all of the industry’s top trade show education forums including IHRSA, NEHRSA, Club Industry and IDEA.

He is one of the fitness industry’s top authorities in the area of developing start-up facilities, writing business plans and acquiring SBA financing. He also focuses on trouble-shooting operations in existing clubs, staffing issues, and the development and tracking of sales systems.

He has consulted for over 300 clients including Chuze Fitness, Anytime Fitness, Gold’s Gym, Powerhouse Gym, World Gym, Results Transformation Centers, and various independent health clubs and personal training gyms.

He’s been featured in Club Insider News Magazine’s “The Best of the Best Club Business Consultants” issues.

In 1994 he developed a software program to track data and statistics in the fitness industry with the intention to compile accurate industry information. In order to compare clubs of different sizes and locations and to create norms and standards to gauge other clubs by, a larger sample and more thorough process had to be explored. The result of this endeavor is that he currently tracks more independent fitness centers than any other organization and has access to data that no one else in the industry has.

He also owns Ferret Brothers Custom T-shirts and ChitChat Media Group.
